Formally created in 2013 by the attendees at AdvisorCon 2013, the MIdAmerica Youth Advisor Network is the culmination of years of work by advisors in the former Prairie Star, Central Midwest, and Heartland districts of the Unitarian Universalist Assocation.
Youth ministry is an exhilarating, challenging, and joyous calling. Our goal is to recognize and honor the commitments of time and spiritual and emotional energy demonstrated by our youth advisors. Youth advisors can feel isolated in their work, lacking regular contact with other adults who are engaged in ministry with adolescents. MAYAN was envisioned as a way for adults engaged in youth ministry to share their ideas, their struggles, their successes, their frustrations, and their passion for shepherding our young people through high school and out into the wider UU world. Through MAYAN, advisors and other adults engaged in youth ministry can share resources, and can get the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual support needed to renew and re-energize their work.
